What a nice welcome to the restaurant Highland Avenue in Hickory, North Carolina.
We sat outside the restaurant on the top patio. Weather was gorgeous. Waitress was very helpful and knowledgable about the menu.
Highland Avenue is a farm to table restaurant, and the Chef Kyle McKnight is really incredible. His travels to Europe, and South America are evident through the menu and the food served. I am a fan of graduates from the C.I.A ( Culinary Institute of America), for those that know me, you know I had the pleasure to tutor the French class there, in Hyde Park, NY. I also recently went to visit the Saint Helena, California location of the C.I.A, and I know I can be a bit biased toward where a Chef of a restaurant graduated. Chef McKnight is a graduate from Johnson and Wales and should be very proud of it. I was impressed!
For appetizer, the plate of cure meats and cheese was really wonderful! All made in house.
I also opted for the fish du Jour and that was delightful. Not overcook, very fine, and presented very well.
I highly recommend this restaurant if you are passing through Hickory.
