A must do, when in Martinique, is an excursion to “Les Fonds Blancs et la Baignoire de Josephine”.

Les fonds blancs, Martinique

La Baignoire de Josephine is situated at the East of the Island, across from “Le Francois” and between the tiny islands ( Ilets) Thierry and Oscar. It is about 2km from the coast.

"The white ocean botton" or "bathtub of Josephine " is a famous place in Martinique. This is a place where the Empress Josephine use to bathe

It is known to be a tourist trap, however we all want to experience it one day.

I was lucky enough to be able to experience that wonderful place with Danny Prudent, owner of the Makare Lagoon Club. What an incredible day on the “Sea Eagle” ! I would recommend his company as he made this tourist trap journey, a very “not tourist trap ” fun ride.

Les Fonds Blancs are sand banks in the middle of the ocean. You can stand up there, swim, have fun and most companies will give you rum, to sip while swimming. We saw many tourists boats there!

What makes Danny’s company different is it was not about drinking, it was not about making money, it was about showing his guests the wonderful island. We were only 7 people on the boat and we stopped on the way to see the flora, the faune.

When we finally arrived there, it was about to storm, we jumped in the water, got rained on, saw a rainbow, and we sipped a glass of champagne. Simple, elegance, camaraderie was the heart of this journey!

This famous place, is, the legend say, called “La baignoire de Josephine” because the future Impératrice Joséphine, first wife of Napoléon 1st, was bathing herself there during her youth, as she was born and reside in Martinique at the Trois Ilets.

I would very much recommend contacting Danny Prudent for your excursions.
