The Habitation Clément is truly the birthplace of the Rhum Agricole. Located in Le Francois, it still maintain the tradition and the culture of an old sugarcane plantation Créole. The Hayot family restored it to keep it a Martiniquean cultural icon.
Thousands of tourists come to visit the Habitation Clément .
I was one of them, I enjoyed touring the botanical gardens and visiting where the Rhum Clément has been made for more than 125 years, and no one leaves without a special bottle for their home bar. Recently some of the older structures have been refurbished into galleries and frequent exhibitions of local Caribbean artists are always open for display.
The Habitation Clement is, since 1966, and authentic French historical landmark. The Habitation is open every day from 9:30am to 5:00pm. It is by far my favorite brand of Rum.
I still, even now that I live in the United States, make my Ty’punch, and planteur with Rum Clement only.
Check their website and please go visit the beautiful plantation if you are ever in Martinique. It is well worth the trip! A votre Sante!
