Casa Antigua…..where old meets new!
When you arrive at the historic Spanish settlement of Casco Viejo, located in Panama City, Panama, you are mesmerized by the narrow cobblestone streets, the culture, the authenticity, the history and the renovation of most of original buildings. The presidential palace is located here…..that speaks for itself. Everything in Casco Viejo is within walking distance. There are many restaurants, bars, and lounges to choose from for your evening entertainment. During the day, I strongly encourage you to browse the many little shops and boutiques where you to buy anything from souvenirs to locally crafted items from jewelry to furniture.
At Casa Antigua, you are conveniently located in beautiful Casco Viejo. When you pull in front of Casa Antigua you are greeted by an original Spanish buildingwhich has been carefully restored. Yes, the original architecture was retained and combines a perfect mix of contemporary pieces…like air conditioning!
The sign for Casa Antigua is small as to preserve the historic balance on the street. The original tiles lead you down a narrow hallway where check in. Andres welcomed us and educated us about the building, the town and Panama City..
We were given the Cruses Suite. This is such a charming beautiful 400 square foot room, equipped with a modern kitchen! The original architecture is fully retained, such as the original beams in the ceiling and the floors. Classic French doors open to this third floor balcony that overlooks the gorgeous Bay of Panama, the amazing Panama City skyline (which looks even more amazing at night), Casco Viejo and you can even see the Presidential Palace!.
The suite has a wonderful living-dining room where the sleeping area is elevated and has modern furniture, to include an extremely comfortable queen bed with a large Panamanian fabric headboard.
The whole room is decorated in a gorgeous mix of modern and historic pieces.
The walls have original stone exposed while on the opposite wall you have a very contemporary built-in wall unit.
This is a two-level suite with a sunk-in kitchen area. Stainless steel appliances are available to make your stay more comfortable as you can go buy groceries from local shops and enjoy meals in the suite or like us you, you can enjoy coffee, breakfast or even a glass of champagne, in the evening, on the balcony
The tiles in this hotel are original which gives it the authenticity someone wants when they stay in a cultural district. Don’t be fooled by the historic feel and sense of Casa Antiqua, everything is very good condition and delicately restored.
The light features in this building are beautiful as they look Spanish, and a heavy style.
A breakfast including, yogurt with granola, toast with butter and jelly, juice, and coffee was provided to us in our suite! The cafe where breakfast is served is located on the first floor and is closed on Sunday. Bicycle were available to patrons as well, to take in Casco Viejo.
This is a perfect place to have a great view of the bay, the modern city skyline, and staying at a very cultural and historic Panamanian Hotel! If you don’t want to stay at a hotel will too many tourists but still want to be in the midst of everything, than Casa Antigua is a great choice!
