I have traveled the world, I have stayed in many places, many boutique hotels, many bed and breakfasts, and many resorts. All have their charm and uniqueness.
The Mandarin Oriental in Buckhead, Atlanta is in the category of “Ivy League” chic boutique hotels.
Arriving in the affluent district of Buckhead is always very thrilling. High rise buildings, major shopping centers, and wonderful hotels.
When we pulled into the Mandarin Oriental in Buckhead, it is an experience unto itself as the gates that welcome you in the large courtyard of this high-rise building leaves you speechless.
Buckhead has one of the densest concentrations of bars, restaurants, hotels, houses, and office buildings. The Mandarin Oriental is located in the heart of it all, but they have created an incredible spacious retreat, it is priceless…truly an urban oasis!
A valet met us with a very nice, warm welcome. We were led from the grand courtyard to the elegant entrance of the hotel. The logo of the hotel, a fan, is really the emblem of the Mandarin Oriental. I loved that it was even transferred into the awning over the main entrance to the hotel.
Ron, our bellman, took our luggage and directed us to the reception area of this chic boutique hotel. The entrance of the hotel is very modern, warm and welcoming. The paintings that adorn the walls are curated by a gallery and the Mandarin pride’s themselves on rotating the art, quarterly. The smell of fresh flowers, painted high ceilings, and a slight relaxing essence of aromatherapy welcomes you to the Mandarin Oriental in Buckhead, Atlanta.
Patrick, our receptionist, gave us our room number and informed us of the yoga class which is available to hotel patrons on Saturday mornings. He also shared the operating hours of the spa, pool and all the amenities this chic boutique hotel offers.
I really liked that Ron stayed with us during our check in and then took us to our room, and did such a great job giving us a tour of our suite. “The Mandarin Terrace” room is an exquisite suite which can accommodate having dinner or breakfast in your room.
The rooms are so modern, the velvet grayish chaise and chairs are beautiful but also very comfortable if you have some work you wish to complete.
The dark chocolate desk is spacious and had a very convenient and unique set up in which to plug your electronics. Everything is so well thought of, and made to accommodate your pleasure.
The elegant, and incredibly spacious white marble bathroom has an extraordinary view of the Buckhead skyline, which will make you want to take a bath in the deep soaking tub and relax in the Quintessence line of product in which the Mandarin Oriental Hotel prides itself.
Twin vanities and a large walk-in shower finishes off this stunning bath retreat. Having plenty of towels available throughout the suite, is incredibly convenient.
The stunning spacious balcony will make you want to stay in and have a cocktail with the gorgeous view of the Atlanta Skyline. The suite is elegant, modern and still maintains that pleasant southern charm, with elegant Asian touches.
The King size bed, plush pillow top mattress and the goose down bedding will help your journey of relaxation and serenity, be achieved, which is the ultimate goal of the Mandarin Oriental.
We stepped out of the room and took a short walk to Lenox Place where you will find some great upscale shopping. Our visit was the week before Thanksgiving. Everything was in place, except Santa! Outside of Macy’s, workers were constructing a huge outdoor stage where the lighting of the tree ceremony is to take place, followed by a concert.
Within walking distance, you have many choices of ethnic, casual, and fine dining restaurants. If you do not wish to walk, there is a complimentary car service, provided by the Mandarin. They will take you to the destination of your choice, within two miles of the hotel.
Coming back to our room was magical, turn-down service had been done, curtains were pulled, all lights had been dimed, bottled water was available, a plush robe had been nicely folded on the bed, and slippers were awaiting me.
Even the television had been turned on to the channel of the Mandarin Oriental which played relaxing and soothing Mandarin music. You will feel like you have been transported to the “bras de Morphee”.
In the morning, coffee is available in the lobby as you make your way either to the Spa, the yoga class, the saline lap pool or the fitness center to exercise.
All the amenities in the hotel are available to patrons. A visit would not be complete without experiencing The Spa, a luxurious retreat spread over two floors. From the steam room, to the sauna, to the private lounge areas, the the amazing attendants, The Spa is an experience unto itself! Make sure you read my upcoming article on my incredible experience at The Spa!
The entire stay was an amazing experience and I can say that I look forward to returning to the Mandarin Oriental, Atlanta, as well as visiting their other amazing locations!
Thank you to the incredible staff! Ron, housekeeping and especially to Sophie Dier and David Colla, you made my stay an unforgettable one!
